Whats this blog about?

We are now in our mid 40's and the kids are growing and making decisions about their own future, the youngest will be 16 in June. My fella and I have talked about living on a barge on and off for the past 20 years but I didn't want to bring up a family on a boat so we stuck with bricks and mortar. The decision was made to wait until the kids were older, it gave us something to dream about and look forward to. Well the time has finally come to stop talking and do something about it....

This blog is a diary about moving towards a life ON the water and maybe some other random bits and bobs along the way.

Let me start by telling you about the blogs background pic...

This was taken in the summer of 2016. A rusty forgotten old barge sits wasting away in Grimsby's Alexandra Dock. It's moored close to my favourite area of the dock where part of the original lock enterance still exists.
We often ponder, whilst waiting to birth our ships, about rescuing her and bringing her to life.  But still she sits, tucked out of the way, minding her  own business.

Intro...

Thinking back it was The Levellers who gave me the ear worm...with the lyrics "If I could choose the life I pleased then I would be a boatman."

That was over 20 years ago but those song lyrics are just as profound to us today that were back then. We now work as 'boatmen' but not on the canals and the rivers free... but as part of the working docks on the banks of the Humber. We grew up on the shores of this river, we work by the tides of this river and now its time to plan a life living on the waters that meld with this river.

This is our story...
